I am an Associate Professor and the Mary and Jim Lawrence Fellow at the Carlson School of Management. I hold a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. My research focuses on human-robot collaboration, business use of social media, online groups, and smartphone use.
My research has been published at top journals such as ACM Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction, ACM Transactions on Human-Robot Interaction, Human Computer Interaction, Information Systems Research, Journal of MIS, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Organization Science, Academy of Management Annals, and top conferences such as CSCW, HICSS, ICIS, and SIGCHI.
I have received many awards over the years. My research on online community design (2016-2019 $919K joint with Robert Kraut, Yan Chen, Qiaozhu Mei) and Wikipedia collaboration (2008-2013 $2.5 million joint with Joe Konstan, Loren Terveen, John Reidl, Mark Snyder) was funded by National Science Foundation. I won the Carlson School Outstanding Teaching Award in 2017 and 2021 and the Carlson School Outstanding Service Award in 2023. I have been nominated by undergraduate and graduate students as the Faculty of the year multiple times.
I served as a Senior Editor (and Diffusion Editor) at Organization Science from 2016 to 2021, an Associate Editor for MIS Quarterly in 2022, an Associate Editor for Management Science (Information Systems Department) from 2015 to 2017, on the editorial board of Organization Science from 2008 to 2016, and on the editorial board of Journal of MIS since 2019.
